2004 and Peyoti could be heard playing in bars and Busking the streets of London, Barcelona & Paris until May 2005 when a chance meeting outside kings Cross station with Ulisses, a Brazillian percussionist who'd recently arrived in London, sparked the blue touch paper that was soon to be 'Peyoti for President'. They sat together and discssed their musical heritage and social and political view points. They also discussed the sorry state of the main stream music Industry and decided to reconvene the following day whereupon they started work on a 5 track EP that would later be called 'The Rising Tide of Conformity'.
What happened next astounded everyone. Chance meetings and collaborations brought together eleven other musicians who were all previously unacquainted. Pandit Dinesh the acclaimed 'Godfather of the Asian movement, Jeff Scantlebury ex-Brand New Heavies and revered London session player and Sami Bishai, probably the most accomplished young Arabic violinist in Europe - and many other incredible talents. "It was never planned, it just kinda fell together like this. People came out the woodwork and gave freely their skills & passion for the love of the music. Really, the sound was being created as it was being recorded with Darabuka's from Seria, Jembes from Africa, a home made Cajon from Brasil and a 150 year old gypsy violin rumoured to originate in Russia that had later travelled around the world as part of an illegal 19th century shipping hoard."
On the 19th November 2005, Sordid Soup Productions released the completed recordings 'The Rising Tide of Conformity' EP as a limited edition 500 only pressing. 4 months later the EP was sold out. A further run of 1,000 copies was consequently manufactured and those too sold out by the end of July. The band together with Sordid Soup Records are now recording the tracks for the album scheduled to be released in February 2008, in the meantime the Rising Tide of Conformity CD is available to buy on itunes or directly from this site.
